View Full Version : Radio display name in Desktop Communicator

I have a radio connected to a Cisco 3825 e&m port. That gateway is configured to connect that radio to a standard multicast Wave channel. Voice communication is working perfectly between the radio and Desktop Communicator.

My problem is a small cosmetic one. When the radio is keyed, the text box where the name of the person talking shows up is blank. Is there any way to configure Wave so that when the radio is transmitting on the channel there's a generic text label like "TACSAT 1" or whatever?

Absolutely.

1)Change the standard channel multicast address and port to something that doesn't match a dial-peer in your router.
2)Create a multicast trunk channel that matches the dial-peer information on the router. The name of this channel will display in the status and presence portion of the client UI.
3)Create a session, add a Media Server and add both channels to the session.
4)Save and commit.

This is the TPS recommended configuration when working with any LMR gateway. Note: everything except a Cisco router will use a WAVE interface instead of a multicast trunk channel. This actually takes ALL client audio and aggregates it into a single stream to the router which frees up DSP resources and let's the router do things like route. Another thing to remember is you can install the Media Server on the existing Management Server so there is no additional hardware required for this recommended method.

Let us know if this help.

Thank you,
Kenneth

Yeah, that works.

I'm trying to avoid putting it through a session to avoid the (small but noticeable) precessing delay that's involved. We have a PA system integrated, and the delay was causing echo feedback that I couldn't tweak out with echo-cancellation.

So is there no way to give it a display name if it's talking directly to a standard channel?

Unfortunately no.

Can you explain your issue in more detail? A slight delay shouldn't cause an echo/feedback. Are you sure you don't have an open mic somewhere?

Thanks,
Kenneth

Okay, thanks.

It's a pretty sensitive PA system, we just need to tweak it. Not an issue with Wave.

Thanks for the info.

read something in the press sayign we had recently adopted here the digital radio broadcastign method as in the UK ? any truth to this one. Does this mean that UK digital recievers will work here ? are there any officially published news on all this ?

Could you provide additional detail regarding the news you referenced. I'm happy to provide any insight I can but need a bit more detail on the digital radio broadcasting method you reference.

Thanks,

I am only getting RX from the wave desktop to my PRC-117 radio. When I key the distant end radio it doesnt come through on the WAVE desktop, but it does come through on the radio. Any help would be appreciated. I think there might be a IP multicast problem between my WAVE server channel and my router.

There are a number of things it could be. Send a copy of your router config and WAVE database to support@twistpair.com and we'll make sure everything is in order.

Here is a link on how to safely backup your database. When you get the MDB file ZIP it up to avoid spam filters.
