View Full Version : IIS won't bring up the Management Server

I have installed IIS 5.1 on my Windows XP Pro/SP3 system and didn't muck with any of the settings for the service, so it is using the defaults. I then installed the standard WAVE 4.5 software according to the WAVE Installation Guide. I heard that the XP Pro isn't supported because of limited traffic handling, but does that mean it won't work at all? I'm not planning on using this server for any heavy lifting.
I ask because I cannot log into the Management Server screen by clicking on the 'Start->All Programs->Twisted Pair Solutions->WAVE->Wave Home Page' link. Explorer comes up with the HTTP 500 error.
Thanks!

Jay,
WAVE will run just fine on XP (SP1, 2 3 etc). There is a limit out outgoing TCP connection, 10 concurrent I believe, but you shouldn't have an issue with that.
There are a number of things that could be going wrong here.
1)Look under IIS>Web Sites>Default Web Site>WAVE and make sure the path is c:\program files\twisted pair solutions\wave\web\
2)Make sure the website is "running" under the IIS mgmt console
3)Goto the machines IP address in IE without adding the /wave to the end. Do you get an Under Construction page? This will test basic IIS functionality.
4)Make sure the IIS user (IUSR_machinename) is in a group that has permission to access c:\program files\twisted pair solutions\wave\web\
4.1)Navigate to Default Web Site>Properties>Directory Security>Edit and make sure Anonymous Access is checked and the user is the IUSR account and that allow IIS to control the password is checked.
5)Uninstall WAVE and delete the whole directory under program files\twisted pair solutions, then uninstall IIS and reboot, then reinstall IIS followed by WAVE

Thanks Ken,
Here's what I've got...
1)Look under IIS>Web Sites>Default Web Site>WAVE and make sure the path is c:\program files\twisted pair solutions\wave\web\
Mine is set to:
C:\Program Files\Twisted Pair Solutions\WAVE\web\
2)Make sure the website is "running" under the IIS mgmt console
Not sure how to tell if WAVE web specifically is running... the 'Default Web Site' is running however.
3)Goto the machines IP address in IE without adding the /wave to the end. Do you get an Under Construction page? This will test basic IIS functionality.
I do get the 'Under Construction' page.
4)Make sure the IIS user (IUSR_machinename) is in a group that has permission to access c:\program files\twisted pair solutions\wave\web\
I installed IIS and WAVE as Administrator. When I looked at the IUSE_hostname user properties, it was only a member of the Guests group, so for snicks I added it to the Administrator group also. However, this didn't seem to solve the problem.
4.1)Navigate to Default Web Site>Properties>Directory Security>Edit and make sure Anonymous Access is checked and the user is the IUSR account and that allow IIS to control the password is checked.
Both are checked
5)Uninstall WAVE and delete the whole directory under program files\twisted pair solutions, then uninstall IIS and reboot, then reinstall IIS followed by WAVE
I tried this prior to posting the original question.

I should have asked at the end of the last posting...
Any other ideas? I've exhausted mine...

Jay,
It's hard to say why you're having trouble. Completely uninstall everything (I know you did before) and also delete any DLL found in System32 that starts with WAVE or TPS (except for the DLL that belongs to Microsoft wavewmp.dll I believe). Then reboot. Then reinstall. If this doesn't help I would suggest a OS reinstall or trying a different machine. I was able to reproduce this issue on my home network but I haven't found the solution, yet. I will know more this weekend.

Make sure you have the Media Server installed and that the service is running (Start>Run>services.msc).
If you have changed your network configuration then it's possible the Media Server is trying to connect to the wrong IP address of the Management Server.
Look in c:\program files\twisted pair solutions\WAVE\mediaserver\WAVEMediaServer.ini and verify the ConfigURL value is a valid address.
