I have Communicator ver 2.0.19 loaded on my laptop which we use for the Radio console communications in Dispatch. I noticed yesterday that it isn't receiving or transmitting but looks OK when loaded. I went to another computer and the Wave program is working fine.

This is a new computer and I loaded new Roxio Digital Media and Roxio Creator Basic v9 on it a couple of days ago and I think that is what caused it to quit working. I uninstalled WAVE and the Roxio programs several times and reinstalled and it still doesn't work. I remember this happened a couple of years ago after I loaded ArcGIS 9.1 and after trying everything I could think of including deleting Twisted Pair Registry entries I had to re-image it with the corporate image and start over. I just got this new computer up with all the programs that we use loaded and don't want to re-image since it took about a week to get everything moved from the old computer.

If you could offer any assitance it would be appreciated.

Willard,

When you uninstalled WAVE did you get any errors? Typically ArcGIS will install DLL files incompatible with WAVE and when you try to uninstall WAVE you'll get DLL unregistration errors. I haven't heard of any other customers using Roxio and having these issues, though.

When you PTT on Dispatch, no audio is heard by other clients correct?

I also assume the same is on the inbound audio from other clients as well?

Does your microphone and soundcard function correctly? A good test is to open Windows Sound Recorder (Click Start > Accessories > Entertainment > Soundrecorder) and record yourself for a few seconds and try to play it back.

If that works we can investigate having you copy over WAVE 2.0 DLL files into your Windows/System32 directory and see if that helps.

Kenneth,

When I uninstalled Wave several times and reistalled it I didn't get any errors and it looks fine you just can't transmit or it doesn't recieve anything. The soundcard and everything work fine also.

I remember when I was installing the Roxio software I canceled it and then started a rebuild on the Roxio 8 software and got an error that it could find the path and the box had a 1 in the pathname box. I remember when the ArcGIS problem happened I got that same error when I was trying to repair or reinstall the wave software then.

If you could zip the dll files and I will replace them it sounds like that might be the problem and not a registry problem.

Thanks Willard

You will find a ZIP file of WAVE 2.0 DLL files. Basically what I do is unzip the file, select all of the DLL files and control-c to copy them to your clipboard. Open Windows/System32 and control-v to paste them in, overwrite them when prompted. 3 or 4 files will be in use by other programs and you can't overwrite them. What I do for these is rename them with a _ in front of the name then repaste the whole lot. Repeat until all DLLs copy successfully.
